wools!!! I call the technique of needle felting the backgrounds for my pieces "needle felt painting". I use about seven different wools on each piece, then add the pictures, fibers, beads and other embellishments. Needle felting is really easy to do. It takes a piece of dense foam, the special needles and different colors of wool roving. You add wisps of the roving by layering the colors one at a time to a piece of fabric or regular felt, then "punch" the wool into the background with the needle.
