Artist Statement / Biography of Kristin Ashton I have loved Paris since my earliest memory. To this day my parents cannot explain why the fascination took hold of my heart. I took my first trip to Paris five years ago at the age of 27 and have been back 3 times since. Upon returning from my first trip I began to collect antique postcards from late 18th and 19th century Paris. Along with my collection I began to discover collage. The art form took hold of me and I have never been the same . That first trip inspired me in so many ways. I believe Paris gave me a gift, the gift of art! My art consists mostly of collage. I have worked with Polymer Clay and have begun taking a class in jewelry design. I construct my collages on either Fabriano watercolor paper or small canvases. Usually my work is no larger than 5" x 7". I never use original antique images. They are far to precious for me to use the originals. I use color copies in all of my artwork. Images are adhered to the support always with Golden Soft Gel Gloss. Recently I have started incorporating Golden Acrylic Paints in to my collages. I finish my collages with Golden Satin Polymer varnish. I know when a collage is done when I feel a sense of balance in color and design. It seems that I always incorporate Paris in to the theme of my collages. In the future I hope to learn photo-shop, continue to work with jewelry design and work on larger scale collages. |
